Two of Our Staff Sticking to Their Posts with Courage and Love

With the surge of the COVID-19 in Shanghai since March 2022, the Materion project in Pudong New Area participated by our Security Service Department was seriously impacted by the epidemic. Materion’s employees involved in the project had been working from home from the very beginning of the lockdown due to the epidemic. However, Cao Kun and Xia Bing, the two security staff of our Security Service Department remained at their posts for the nearly 70 days of lockdown. With great love in their hearts, selfless dedication and conscientiousness, they shouldered their responsibilities and ensured the safety of Materion’s office premises.

At the beginning of the epidemic, although all the employees of Materion were working from home, there were trucks delivering goods to Materion’s warehouse from time to time, with 4-5 trucks of goods arriving in a day sometimes. With no Materion’s staff on site, Cao Kun and Xia Bing did not sit idly by. Instead, they helped with the handling of goods by counting the goods and moving them into the warehouse. To prevent the backlog of goods in the warehouse, they took the initiative to learn the delivery process from the Sales Department of Materion, and learn to print labels, pack, and print logistics bills. They also helped with the goods delivery on their own when the carrier refused to deliver as the delivery distance is too short for them.

Since the epidemic prevention and control supplies purchased by the Department could not be delivered to them, Cao Kun and Xia Bing did not even have sufficient masks. Even though there were confirmed cases reported constantly near the warehouse, they sticked to the post and had been helping Materion receive and deliver goods for 2 months. In those two months, Shanghai was short of supplies, and it is even difficult to buy food. They sometimes only ate one meal a day, and had nothing but instant noodles or quick-frozen food. With hardly enough masks, they had to borrow from other nearby factories. However, they did not slack off because of the harsh environment and insisted on completing three patrols of the office space every day. They helped to pump the water out of the office space due to leakage, and cleaned the kitchen and bathroom regularly for nearly 70 days.

Cao Kun and Xia Bing overcame many difficulties during the 70 days, and completed various tasks that are or beyond their duties. They were highly praised by Materion and received a letter of appreciation from Materion on June 17.
